What is Freemasonry?
Membership to Freemasonry is open to every respectable man who believes in the Supreme Being or higher power. The three principles that Freemasonry is based upon are; Brotherly love – respect and tolerance for others and their opinions, and acting in kindness towards all people. Relief – offering charity and caring towards our members and the wider community, giving up our time and attention towards the less fortunate without detriment to our families. Truth – honesty and integrity in our personal, public and working life, being fair and demonstrating high standards of morality and decency.
James Speller Lodge meets regularly at the Croydon District Masonic Halls, 73 Oakfield Road Croydon, CR0 2UX. Our membership consists of men from varied walks of life. The lodge has an active social annual calendar with events such as a BBQ in the middle of the summer, Lodge shoots at various times of the year, a Ladies Night hosted by the Worshipful Master and a Christmas meal. Brethren also get together frequently for less formal events such as a Monday night curry and we are always looking to increasing our social events to be inclusive for our partners and families and friends. Some of the lodge members also meet at weekends to pursue their love of clay pigeon shooting and meeting at the local Pub. The best way to describe our lodge is that we are friendly, inclusive and open to ideas of social engagements. We care for and nurture our new members (of any age) and hopefully everyone feels welcome at all times.
We pride ourselves in the quality of our ceremonies and we actively hold classes of instruction with senior members present to mentor, guide and support our understanding. The lodge practices the Emulation Ritual.
